“As in the Days of Noah”

But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord” (Gen 6:8).  God’s merciful grace as experienced by Noah is still operative today.  But just prior to verse 8 we read the shocking truth that only one family survived the deluge, the worldwide flood, approximately 4,004 years ago.  Gen 6:5-7 reads, “And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.  And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved Him at his heart.  And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.”  Absent any historical record with which to calculate the numbers, it is conservatively estimated that perhaps as many as ten million souls perished from the earth in this one catastrophic judgment.

We are again living “as in the days of Noah” (Matt 24:38, Luke 17:26) with wickedness filling the earth.  Now, just as then, God’s longsuffering patience continues –but only for a season. “…God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water (1 Pet 3:20).  God “…spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly(2 Pet 2:5).

Having not spared the old world, God will not spare our world.  Yes, true to His promise, bows of color continue to grace the sky after the rain.  He promises that never again will water cover the entire earth.  But after Jacob’s Trouble, after the nations are judged, fire will purge all wickedness from God’s previously perfect creation (2 Pet 3:10).

There is only one true urgency, one universal imperative for every soul on the planet:  Being found inside the Ark in God the Son –by the washing of the Word and the power of God the Holy Spirit.  Any whose sins are covered by the Son of God, Christ Jesus, being justified in Him alone, are safe inside the Ark according to Heb 10:18-20.  Spiritual safety taught by the Bible means “Ye must be born again” according to John 3:3,5,7.
